How to Talk to Children About World Art
Frances Lincoln
Автор: Isabelle Glorieux-Desouche Издательство: Frances Lincoln, 2010 |
PDF, 176 страниц, 5.28 МБ
For anyone who wants their children to understand and love the art of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, this guide has questions and answers about thirty amazing objects. Anticipating how children will react to artifacts ranging from a Congolese mask or a Sioux warrior's tunic to a Javanese puppet or an Easter Island Moai, each section begins with very simple observations — 'This face doesn't look very African!' — and moves on to more complex questions such as 'What do the decorations on the forehead and temples represent?', 'Does white mean something special in Africa?'. Written in everyday language for people with no art expertise or teaching experience, the book includes maps, colour coding and thumbnail images to help you see where each featured work of art comes from. The explanations also include guidance on what's most appropriate for what age, from four to fourteen. There are invaluable tips for planning a visit to a museum and a thorough discussion of modern western perceptions of world art and the tricky terminology associated with the subject.

The Gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright
Frances Lincoln
Автор: Fell Derek Издательство: Frances Lincoln, 2014 |
PDF, 160 страниц, 4.80 МБ
The product of extended visits to properties associated with Wright, and extensive interviews with surviving colleagues and students, this is the first book in full colour to focus on Wright's four most famous residential landscapes — his first home and studio at Oak Park, Illinois; his magnificent 3,000 acre summer home Taliesin, Wisconsin; his 600-acre winter home Taliesin West, Arizona; and Fallingwater, Pennsylvania, the commission that made him world famous. Featuring an introduction by James Van Sweden, America's leading garden designer and landscape architect, this book highlights a revolutionary take on garden design. It also explores the source of Wright's inspiration in Japanese and Mayan landscapes as well as his appreciation of the stone meeting circles and naturalistic prairie plantings of the great landscape architect Jens Jensen. Two final chapters offer planting plans for a prairie-style and a desert-style garden inspired by Wright's designs.

Liberty Style
Frances Lincoln
Автор: Wood Martin Издательство: Frances Lincoln, 2014 |
PDF, 208 страниц, 6.24 МБ
The story of Liberty's is the story of design. The brand has been an international byword for style and innovation since May 1875, when Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened the doors of his Regent Steet shop. The son of a draper, Arthur Liberty (1843-1917) was inspired by the conviction that if he could only raise the capital to open his own shop, he could change the whole look of fashion in dress and interior decoration. He did exactly that. With an impressive ability to spot talent and to promote good, innovative and interesting design, Liberty's shop quickly became the epicentre of London's Aesthetic movement, the place where Oscar Wilde bought Japanese silk. Succesive movements found a home at Liberty's: Arts and Crafts; Art Nouveau; Art Deco; and the Georgian revival. The work of almost all the great designers of the past century in the fields of glass, metalwork, furniture, ceramics, fashion and, above all, textiles has appeared under the Liberty label. In this book Martin Wood tells the story of Liberty's, its design and its designers: from the pewter and silverware of Archibald Knox and the Silver Studio and William DeMorgan's tiles to the fabrics of Lucienne Day, Sonia Delaunay and Bernard Nevill and the furniture of Piero Fornasetti, Vico Magistretti and even Ringo Starr.

Monet's Garden in Art
Frances Lincoln
Автор: Debra N. Mancoff Издательство: Frances Lincoln, 2016 |
PDF, 176 страниц, 5.28 МБ
This book focuses on Monet's garden at Giverny as seen through his paintings, offering a revealing insight into the artist and his work. Monet's garden was a private haven where domestic pleasure, artistic vision and aesthetic delight converged. It became as powerful a passion in his life as painting — he chose his planting schemes as carefully as he chose colours for his palette. It was also the inspiration for his art, and the subject of some of his greatest paintings. Exploring his vision of the world of beauty he brought into being, Debra Mancoff shows how Monet's endeavours as a gardener were part of his identity as a painter and how his artistic vision drew strength from his passion for his garden.

Cecil Beaton: Portraits and Profiles
Frances Lincoln
Автор: Beaton Cecil Издательство: Frances Lincoln, 2014 |
PDF, 288 страниц, 8.64 МБ
This beautiful collection of fabulous photographs and incisive pen portraits captures the world of Cecil Beaton, one of the most celebrated portrait photographers of the twentieth century. Cecil Beaton: Portraits and Profiles combines Beaton's photographic and pen portraits. Beaton's portraits offer insight, beauty, witty observations and a fascinating glimpse into his world. His images often flattered but his diaries and journals didn't necessarily follow suit and he was described by Jean Cocteau as Malice in Wonderland. Included are stars of music, fashion, society, stage and screen. From Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol, Coco Chanel and Princess Grace through to Greta Garbo, Elizabeth Taylor and Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. Of Audrey Hepburn, Beaton said she is like a portrait by Modigliani where the various distortions are not only interesting in themselves but make a completely satisfying composite. Marilyn Monroe romps, she squeals with delight, she leaps on the sofa. It is an artless, impromptu, high-spirited, infectiously gay performance. It will probably end in tears. Marlon Brando was pallid as a mushroom, smooth-skinned and scarred, with curved feminine lips and silky hair, he seems as unhealthy as a lame duck. Yet his ram-like profile has the harsh strength of the gutter Cecil Beaton's life spanned many worlds and these are captured here through his fabulous photographs and incisive observations.
