Zabadoo is a four-level course that is designed to follow on from the two-level introductory series, Zap! Together, the six levels take children who have just started English right up to the end of primary school. The upper levels of the course give a greater emphasis on reading and writing. Zabadoo features engaging characters such as Zabadoo the genie, Bob the fish and Olly the octopus, who present English through stories, songs and written activities. An entertaining comic strip works as a gentle and motivating introduction to reading in English. Listening, reading and writing activities, as well as games pages and cut-outs, reinforce learning and the course is further enriched by songs from Carolyn Graham. At each level, life in Britain is presented through the eyes of a ten-year-old British boy in Will's website. This gives children opportunities for cross-cultural comparisons with life in their own country. Simple class plays to perform at Christmas and at the end of the school year give pupils further opportunities for practising language. This class book provides: six units plus a starter unit; a comic strip story; festivals sections; songs and games; and opportunities for cross-cultural comparison.

Do you believe in ghosts? Jerry doesn't. He's a nineteen-year-old American, who just wants a good holiday with his friend, Brad. They are travelling round the north of England by bicycle. But strange things begin to happen in the small hotel where they are staying. First, Brad seems to think that he has been there before. And then a girl called Ellen appears... The first of these three original plays is set in the seventeenth century, and the other two take place in modern times. In each play, a ghost comes back from the dead to change the lives of living people.

This famous play by Oscar Wilde is one of the finest comedies in the English language. Algernon knows that his friend Jack does not always tell the truth. For example, in town his name is Ernest, while in the country he calls himself Jack. And who is the girl who gives him presents from little Cecily, with all her love? But when the beautiful Gwendolen Fairfax says that she can only love a man whose name is Ernest, Jack decides to change his name, and become Ernest forever. Then Cecily agrees to marry Algernon, but only if his name is Ernest, too, and things become a little difficult for the two young men.

Nani Tama looked at each of us — Dad, Auntie Hiraina, my cousin Timi, and myself. His eyes were angry. 'You fullas want me to die here in this room? Looking at these four walls? When the whakapapa is not yet finished?' But Nani Tama gets his own way, and his grandson drives him through the night, to find the missing pieces from the family history. The stories in this volume of World Stories are by New Zealand writers James Courage, Witi Ihimaera, Philip Mincher, and Joy Cowley.
