Ce livre est une théorie d'ensemble de la traduction. Par son point de vue et son ampleur, il n'a pas d'équivalent parmi les ouvrages qui traitent du traduire. Il propose une critique, c'est-à-dire une fondation, des principes qui relient l'acte de traduire à la littérature. Il commence par l'examen des idées reçues, et l'histoire de la traduction en Europe, continent culturel bâti sur des traductions. L'objet est de fonder la nécessité de tenir l'acte de traduire, et ses résultats, par le fonctionnement des oeuvres littéraires. D'où une critique de l'étude des traductions comme discipline autonome, qui revient à la remettre aux seules questions de sens, en méconnaissant que le langage fait autant et plus qu'il ne dit. La question de la poétique est comment. Seule une théorie d'ensemble du langage et de la littérature peut situer la spécificité du traduire. Car on ne traduit pas seulement des langues, mais des textes. Si on l'oublie, cet oubli se voit. La théorie et la pratique sont inséparables. Les textes traduits vont du sacré à la poésie, au roman, au théâtre et à la philosophie. Ils passent par l'hébreu biblique, le grec ancien, le chinois classique, l'italien, l'anglais, l'allemand et le russe.

På svenska! 2 På svenska 2 develops knowledge aquired from the beginner's book. The teaching material targets students who already have a sound grasp of the basics. It is also appropriate for self-study.
