The landscape of the plains of the Rhine is a place that speaks of the history of a people who have had to put ethics before aesthetics for survival. It is these echoes of the past and the shades of the landscape that inform the volumes and principles of the new Jansen Campus. This volume recounts the result of two years of extraordinary collaboration between the architects and the clients. The building, a striking new addition to the skyline, is the link between the industrial area and the old town and takes its triangular forms from the traditional pitched roofs of Oberriet. The book focuses on the innovative technologies used for the project, which includes new details and materials not yet used in architecture the facade system for example, which displays structural glazing details (by Jansen AG) and internal glazed fireproof doors. The buildings heating, ventilation, lighting and energy consumption meets strict Swiss Minergie standards, meaning that it has excellent sustainable credentials.

Josef Koudelkas Wall comprises panoramic landscape photographs he made from 2008 to 2012 in East Jerusalem, Hebron, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and in various Israeli settlements along the route of the barrier separating Israel and Palestine. Whereas Israel calls it the security fence, Palestinians call it the apartheid wall, and groups like Human Rights Watch use the term separation barrier, the wall in Koudelkas project is metaphorical in naturefocused on it as a human fissure in the natural landscape. Sometimes blocks of concrete define the panoramas; at other times displaced olive treesa lifeline for one man, collateral damage in anothers claim for territorysubtly emerge. As in his Black Triangle project, made in the Bohemian foothills of the Ore Mountains in the early 1990s, Wall conveys the fraught relationships between humankind and nature and between closely related cultures. A chronology, lexicon, and captions provide context for the photographs. The book is designed by Xavier Barral, working closely with Koudelka, and is a coproduction by Aperture and Editions Xavier Barral. Wall, with texts by Ray Dolphin written in collaboration with Koudelka and project advisor Gilad Baram, is part of a larger project, This Place, initiated by photographer Frederic Brenner. This Place explores Israel as place and metaphor through the eyes of twelve internationally acclaimed photographers, who were invited to look beyond dominant political narratives and to explore the complexity of the place and its resonance for people around the world not to judge, but to question and to reveal.

In 1931, Diego Rivera was the subject of The Museum of Modern Art's second monographic exhibition, which set new attendance records in its five-week run. The Museum brought Rivera to New York six weeks before the show's opening and gave him on-site studio space. There he produced five portable murals — large blocks of frescoed plaster, slaked lime and wood that feature bold images drawn from Mexican subject matter and address themes of revolution and class inequity. After the opening, to great publicity, Rivera added three more murals, now taking on New York subjects through monumental images of the urban working class and the city during the Great Depression. Published in conjunction with an exhibition that brings together key works made for Rivera's 1931 show, this catalogue casts the artist as a highly cosmopolitan figure who traveled between Russia, Mexico and the United States and examines the intersection of artmaking and radical politics in the 1930s. Illustrated with reproductions of each panel as well as related paintings, drawings, prints and documentary photographs, the book's essays investigate the international politics of muralism, Rivera's history with MoMA, the iconography of the portable murals and technical aspects of the artist's working process. Diego Rivera (1886-1957) was a central figure in the development of Mexican muralism, an ambitious public art initiative intended to relay Mexico's ideals after the Revolution (1910-1920). A highly cosmopolitan artist, Rivera had spent many years in Europe before returning to Mexico in 1921, and in 1927 he traveled to the Soviet Union where he met Alfred Barr, the soon-to-be founding director of The Museum of Modern Art, New York. Rivera's artistic celebrity benefitted from major commissions in the United States, including murals for the Pacific Stock Exchange, the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, MoMA and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
