«Typical — just when Bertie thinks that God's in his heaven and all's right with the world, things start to go wrong again... There's young Bingo Little, who's in love for the umpteenth time and needs Bertie to put in a good word for him with his uncle; Aunt Agatha, who forces Bertie to get engaged to the formidable Honoria Glossop; and the troublesome twins, Claude and Eustace, whose antics when let loose in London know no bounds. Add to that some friction in the Wooster home over a red cummerbund, purple socks and some snazzy old Etonian spats, and poor Bertie's really in the soup... Only one man can save the day — the inimitable Jeeves. The characters include: Bertie Wooster — Narrator who went to school with Bingo and also won a prize at his first school for the best collection of wild flowers; Jeeves — Bertie's valet who has an aunt who loves the romantic novels of Rosie M. Banks; Bingo Little — Mortimer's nephew who loves Mabel. He tells his uncle that Bertie is really Rosie M. Banks; Mabel — waitress in a tea shop; Mortimer Little — retired fat businessman who owned Little's Liniment — «It Limbers Up the Legs.» He is a gourmet; and Jane Watson — Mortimer's cook engaged to Jeeves, but not for long.»

From his favourite chair on the terrace above the ninth hole, The Oldest Member tells a series of hilarious golfing stories. From Evangeline, Bradbury Fisher's fifth wife and a notorious 'golfing giggler', to poor Rollo Podmarsh whose game was so unquestionably inept that 'he began to lose his appetite and would moan feebly at the sight of a poached egg', the game of golf, its players and their friends and enemies are here shown in all their comic glory.

P: G. Wodehouse: A Life in Letters

This is the definitive edition of P.G. Wodehouse's letters, edited with a commentary by Oxford academic Sophie Ratcliffe. The funniest and most adored writer of the twentieth century, P.G. Wodehouse always shied away from the idea of a biography — a retiring sort of chap, he expressed himself through the written word. So his letters — expertly collected and edited here — provide the best biographical accompaniment you could wish for to legendary comic creations such as Jeeves, Wooster, Psmith and the Empress of Blandings. Tapping hitherto unknown sources, these letters give an unrivalled insight into the great man, from his schooldays at Dulwich College, the family's financial reverses which saw his hopes of university dashed, life in New York working in musical comedy alongside Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin, the years of fame as a novelist, and not least the strange episode in 1940 where he was interned by the Germans and accused of broadcasting pro-Nazi propaganda. It is a book every lover of Wodehouse will want to possess.

Published to coincide with the star-filled BBC production of Blandings, this superb new anthology sees these celebrated stories together for the first time. Set in the delightfully dysfunctional mess of Blandings Castle these 6 gems follow the trials of poor Earl Emsworth and his beloved pig Empress as they clash with a panoply of friends and family, servants and spongers, bookies and hucksters. And all served up with great lashings of comedy from that rarest of geniuses: P.G. Wodehouse.

«This book features a baker's dozen of P.G. Wodehouse's finest short stories. «What a very, very lucky person you are. Spread out before you are the finest and funniest words from the finest and funniest writer the past century ever knew.» (Stephen Fry). Aunts, engagements, misunderstandings and hangover cures; this delightful collection from 'the greatest chronicler of a certain kind of Englishness' (Julian Fellowes) brings together a baker's dozen of P. G. Wodehouse's finest short stories. In this beautiful edition we find Bertie Wooster and Jeeves embarking on foolhardy quests and inspired rescue missions. We discover Ukridge, the ever-optimistic animated blob of mustard, undeterred in his big broad outlook, no matter how bleak things look, while the Fifth Earl of Ickenham, better known as Uncle Fred, continues enjoying life, quite oblivious to the embarrassment he's causing. And, as snow falls on the links outside the Angler's Rest, Mr Mulliner, the Oldest Member at the Golf Club, settles in to recount tales of romance and ghosts, and keep the tide of intellectual — albeit rather one-sided — conversation flowing. It includes: Jeeves and the Yule-Tide Spirit (Very Good, Jeeves); One Touch of Nature (The Man With Two Left Feet); The Ordeal of Young Tuppy (Very Good, Jeeves); Ukridge's Dog College (Ukridge); The Story of William (Meet Mr Mulliner); Uncle Fred Flits By (Young Men in Spats); How's That, Umpire (Nothing Serious); Honeysuckle Cottage (Meet Mr Mulliner); The Spot of Art (Very Good, Jeeves); The Heel of Achilles (The Clicking of Cuthbert); Indian Summer of an Uncle (Very Good, Jeeves); Romance at Droitgate Spa (Eggs, Beans and Crumpets); and, Sundered Hearts (The Clicking of Cuthbert).»
